Yana Datkhaeva (pronounced dat·hi·va) was born in Central Asia. She studied in England at Stockport College in Manchester, and received her BFA from Otis School of Art & Design in Los Angeles.
Her principal work is abstract and the compositions are primarily concerned with light, water and the idea of translucency. The layers of complex color in the canvases are diaphanous as if the light is dancing through them. The surface of these immense paintings was reshaped via various collage materials and then the moment was sealed...
Her artworks have been acquired by private collectors in Manchester, Boulder and New York. Los Angeles is where Yana paints; the city provides the optimum amount of light for her abstractions. |
