Derek Boshier first came to prominence with his paintings as a student at the Royal College of Art in London in the early 1960s, together with fellow students David Hockney, Allen Jones, R.B. Kitaj, and others in the British Pop Art movement.
Subsequently he has worked in many other media:
drawing, printmaking, film, books, three dimensional object making,
installations, photography, and in graphics, working with popular music such as The Clash and with David Bowie.
More recent work has included an installation, The Journey/Israel Project concerned with Jewish
and Israeli culture.
Also a series of paintings and drawings based on particular themes
of Los Angeles including Freeways, Architecture, The Los Angeles Times, LA Art Collectors
and Transsexuals.
A commission from the NFL in 2002 generated an
exhibition of paintings on the theme of sports including football, soccer, basesball, swimming, cycling,
wrestling, basketball, and athletics.
