Artist Bio:
Austin Young is a photographer and video/film maker, currently living in Los Angeles. He studied painting at Parson's School of Design in Paris, and began making portraits of drag queen performance artists and underground icons when he moved to New York in 1988. His work can be seen regularly in Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine, and has appeared in Surface, Flaunt, Vogue, Cabinet Magazine, and Jalouse,. His portrait subjects include Leigh Bowery, Lypsinka, Siouxsie Sioux, Nina Hagen, Diamanda Galas, Debbie Harry, Jimmy Scott,Tura Satana, Margaret Cho, Sandra Bernhard, Ziyi Zhang, Skinny Puppy, Mark Almond, Ann Magnuson, Amy Poehler, etc. His recent video work has shown around the world in festivals and galleries including; InsideOUT, Mix Festival , Frameline, and Reeling. "The Stroke" won best short of 2003 on ADD-TV. And “Strange Fruit” won best experimental short at Silver Lake Film Festival in 2007. The feature length documentary, "Queen of The Boogie," about torch singer, Hadda Brooks will show at festivals this year. Reviews about his works are published in Tachen's 1000 Favorite Websites, The Journal of Aesthetics and Protest, Elegy, Photo Digitalis, Frontiers and Premonition.
